Therapy, Coaching and Mentoring
Therapy and Coaching – an introduction and explanation
Both the therapeutic and the coaching relationship can provide an opportunity to make a difference.
Whether you want to evaluate conflicts, fears and suffering; resolve personal or work-related issues; find a sense of purpose for a personal crisis; want a deeper understanding of how to overcome internal obstacles or have a longing to achieve deeper potential then therapy or coaching can offer a relationship to support and honour you with a process that may seem insurmountable to you on your own.
As a therapist and a coach my approach allows for the review of the circumstances that you may experience as problematic and even overwhelming. The process I offer will help you to uncover blocks, fears, and anxieties but it will also help expose qualities and skills that lie within, allowing different perspectives to be revealed that offer routes to enhanced wellbeing, deeper potential, greater contentment and a sense of joy.
Therapy and Coaching – The simple differences
Therapy
Counselling or psychotherapy can be either a short or long-term process. An individual works with a professional in order to resolve crisis, problems, unwanted feelings - which can include physical responses, problematic beliefs, behavioural patterns and relationship issues. The general idea for therapy is to focus on past issues which can include traumatic events, to alleviate suffering, to establish and change self-destructive habitual patterns and to repair and elevate relationships and work through painful feelings. Therapists help the individual explore and understand their subconscious and unconscious mind and how it is affecting their present. Therapy often focuses on the past and on introspection and understanding how the past is in the present and what needs to change.
Coaching
Coaching offers you a process to gain perspective, clarify goals and identify obstacles and problematic behaviours in order to achieve the said goals. It is a focused, supportive and action-oriented process in order to achieve a particular desired result.
The coach will require results and actions from the coachee. So, goals are measured with key performance indicators, specific outcomes and overall desired outcomes.
My Approach
Therapy
My original therapeutic training was in psychosynthesis, but I use an integrative approach and incorporate learnings from various modalities including Person-Centred, integrative and soul psychology approaches.
My work encompasses the wide and diverse range of human experience and I have a particular interest in working with people of colour.
I work holding a context of hope and possibility, whilst incorporating and recognising the challenges that life can dispense which can include discomfort, disappointment, agitation, confusion and uncertainty.
At the heart of my practice style is an attentive and devoted listener. I am willing to take time, to travel with each person, for as long as they need. Often, our hectic world does not provide the space we require for self-connection. In our busy and active lives we are asked to strive, do more, to maintain the treadmill. These behaviours often leave little time to find any space to re-balance, de-stress or to align with our true needs, interests and values.
I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for individuals and groups to explore and gain a different perspective on their experiences, suffering and distress. Whilst listening deeply to the message of the presenting difficulties, we work with emerging potential and a desirable outcome.
Conscious Ageing
As I've matured I have developed a deeper desire for compassionate self-understanding and a recognition for the necessity to age with consciousness. Just as we need tools to aid and live life fully, so to we require components to help us mature with awareness.
How do I recognise and maintain potential and growth as I age and advance? What does aging mean and what part can I play to remain self-aware and attentive to the process? What does aging mean for us collectively? How can we witness and understand more fully what birth and death means?
I offer a contained space for individuals and groups to reflect and explore these important themes.
Developmental Coaching and Mentoring
As a personal development coach I offer a space to process and facilitate change. I will help you to gain perspective, clarify your goal/s and identify any possible obstacles and problematic behaviours in order to achieve the said goals. I have a particular interest in supporting people of colour who are navigating organisations, the creative industries and being entrepreneurs.
I will work with you and provide a focused, action-oriented process in order to achieve your desired result. I will help you identify, create and implement strategies and identify and change non-functioning mindsets. I will facilitate how to find your empathic skills, help to acknowledge and overcome any fears and find ways to gain confidence.
Team Coaching
Key to the team coaching experience is reflection, both internally and externally.
I work with your team, helping to create and implement a cohered vision and goal; cultivate strengths and uncover vulnerabilities; develop strategy and enhance flexibility. At the centre of a successful team is trust, respect and courage. I will help you to align and increase communication skills to ensure creative collaboration and a well-formed team culture to create an efficient, focused and creative unit.
